Electronics is the study of useful and practical circuits (whether analogue or digital), often as components within integrated circuit chips. Microelectronics refers to IC technology that can put billions of individual components and circuits on a small piece of silicon.

Digital electronics refers to where signals are discrete-time signals in binary. Analogue electronics involve continuous-time signals. Mixed-signal design involves the use of both.
