groups:
- formally — like work groups
- informally — like “you and your friends study everyday after class together”
- for larger groups — usually easier to implement with a divide-and-conquer approach
- types of tasks
- additive tasks — like swarm tasks (organising tables in classroom into 3 rows)
- disjunctive tasks
- conjunctive tasks — like Olympics relay races
roles
- role ambiguity - unclear what you’re supposed to do and how you’re supposed to contribute
- cohesiveness
- results in ppl wanting to participate or engage more
- toughness of initiation — like being a uoft engineering student
- consequences of cohesiveness
- high cohesion may result in rebellion
There are two main types of engineering teams:
- Cross-functional teams integrate colleagues of different expertise and background.
- Within-function teams have colleagues all of a similar expertise.
