- The global conservation of charge states that the total charge in the universe is constant.
- i.e., the net charge of any isolated system is always conserved.
- The local conservation of charge states that if the charge in some region changes, then exactly the same amount of charge must have passed in or out of the surface.
- This is stated mathematically with the current-continuity equation.
