The Windows Display Driver Model is the GPU driver architecture for Windows drivers. It works for Windows versions post-Vista. WDDM is able to do:
- GPU resource scheduling. WDDM supports pre-emptive scheduling.
- Virtual memory management for the GPU.
- Reduced crashes with separation of concerns — there’s both a user-mode and kernel-mode component.
- Tight integration with DirectX.
- Timeout detection and recovery, for system stability.
- Multiple monitor support.
