A memristor (memory resistor) is a theoretical device that follows the equation:

where is the magnetic flux linkage. Ideal memristors don’t actually exist,1 but memristive circuits and systems do, where we build circuits that mimic the key properties of memristors. The idea with memristors is that they have a “memory” of past voltages or currents.

Memristors can act like an ideal switch, a little like MOSFETs but different in its fundamental operation.
