There’s several distinct fields aimed at working with data.

Data analytics analyses existing data to discover trends and patterns. They create data visualisations and communicate these insights to stakeholders.
Data science takes analytics and cranks it to 11. It involves building statistical and machine learning models for insights and predictions. This is not unlike machine learning engineering.
Data engineering builds out infrastructure for data storage and processing. This is not unlike regular software engineering.
