This is on me (as it always is), but I admit this book was not for me. From a science fiction perspective, Time War toys with some interesting ideas. Time travel and a future where war is waged across time and space is explored with fresh new ground in this book. This is perhaps the most compelling part of my read.

But I got a sense that the writing is not nearly at the masterpiece-level people rave of. It’s detached (perhaps intentionally so), and this does it no favours when it attempts to also tell a love story. There are nice lines, but these lack any sort of subtlety and the authors frankly try too hard to pack the book full of them, to the detriment of the overall quality of the writing.

Look at some selected quotes people have shared. Do you find yourself impressed? I don’t. It strikes me as overly pretentious, mostly average writing that gives the reader what they want without any work.

Jesus Christ.
