Quantum mechanical model

The quantum mechanical model (or wave mechanical model) is our most current model of the structure of the atom, and makes use of quantum mechanics.

The model makes use of four quantum numbers to describe the energy state of an electron:

• Principal quantum number, $n$
• Angular momentum, or azimuthal quantum number $l$
• Magnetic quantum number $m_l$
• Spin quantum number, $m_s$
