A client statement (or design brief) is an initially written by a client and describes a design problem. Our job as engineers is to analyse and understand the client statement, so we can write the problem statement.
- Remove: implied solutions, errors, biases
- Add: information through research and observation
- Identify: the gap, need, and scope of the problem
Design briefs can sometimes be short and vague. Requests for proposals can span thousands of pages. One of the biggest problems we may face are implied solutions.
